Hi Super, some of the above answers are not exactly correct.
First of all. Creditors IE banks and financial institutions can not tell if you repaired your credit yourself or someone else did it for you.
Second of all credit repair done by a credit repair company or the person repairing their own company is not a myth. It is done all the time and it is just like cleaning anything else. Takes some hard work and know how but it can be done.
Third of all i own a debt credit consultation business and do this every day and im quite successful at it.
give me an email. I will give you some advice and you can determine if you want to try it yourself or hire a company to do it for you.

Are Credit Repair Companies Worth It And If So Which Is Best?

If you cannot afford your payments with how they are right now, I would suggest for you to call your creditors and ask what they can do for you.
If they don’t want to budge, then don’t use a so-called credit repair company, or even other companies like a debt settlement company; you should use a credit counseling service.
A counseling service will help you find a way to pay your debt back. Some want a montly fee, which doesn’t make them any less legitimate, and others don’t.
I decided to go with CareOne when I had $10,000 in credit card debt and, although I could make my monthly payments, it was the minimum and I felt like I wasn’t getting any ahead.
Bottom line is don’t trust any company who makes promises, such as they promise to repair your credit score.

Has Anyone Used A Credit Repair Service To Repair Their Credit And Is It A Scam Or Does It Really Work?

Having been in the mortgage business for many years now I can tell you from my experience that there are a few companies that are great and most are scams. First thing you MUST do is find one that LICENSED AND BONDED from the Department of Consumers Affairs. Then you must ask for samples of work. I have a guy I have used for years and every client I have sent to them came back with amazing results. They are an attorneys office which is the best way to go from my experience because any company that uses dispute letters can do EXACTLY the same thing as you can. Also no one will ever know that you used one.
Credit Counseling is Debt Consolidation not credit repair but credit Repair can get rid of that also.
Most of the responses on here are thinking Debt Consolidation not Credit Repair. Credit Repair helps remove negative items from your credit report not consolidate your debt.
